Rotary Friendship Exchange

A wonderful program to see the world, develop lasting friendships, and share with fellow Rotarians in foreign districts.  District 7630 had its first half of an exchange in the Spring of 2006 when ten of our district’s couples were hosted by Swedish Rotarians who shared their homes, their meals, their families, their friends and acted as tour guides for ten days.  In the Spring of 2007 our district reciprocated an hosted the Rotarians from Sweden for ten days.

Now we are preparing for the next adventure.  We have started a dialog with eight districts in eight countries and hope to schedule at least one side of an exchange by the Spring of 2008.

While an outgoing exchange is usually limited to ten of our district’s rotary couples, it takes three times as many to host an exchange; visiting couples usually stay with three different families in three geographically separate places within the district during their stay.  While that seems to involve a large number of Rotarians, it turns out that the more experienced districts are doing  multiple exchanges with multiple countries in the same year.  Their friendship exchanges have become so popular there is a waiting list and a point system to participate.  We’re not there yet, but those of us that have had a taste of it can’t wait to do it again.

Our first exchange involved most but not all of our district.  In order to assure greater awareness and more widespread participation the planning committee now includes a chair from each of the six district areas.  Contact these individuals to obtain additional information about the program and to indicate your interest in future participation:
